When Off-air, the last recorded video clip [may be] playing and 'Pre-recorded" should show in upper-right, or possibly a slide show of my work will be playing. (Ustream recently made some very disrupting changes to their network interface!)

This is a TV show, a video internet stream all about art techniques, oil and acrylic painting, from a man, a portrait painter, who has been painting professionsally for nearly 30 years. As a freelance illustrator, David R. Darrow -- Dave The Painting Guy -- worked for advertising companies and design houses in San Diego, Orange County, Palm Desert, Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. Dave has taught at the college and university levels for many years of his professional art career. He is a graduate of Art Cneter College of deisgn in Pasadena, CA, where he subsequently taught Advanced Advertizing Illustration Techniques to 7th and 8th term students, helping them refine their skills, and encouoraging them to work at a level they did not know they could.
Dave, along the way, got into computers as a hobby -- trying always to convince himself he needed these monsters for his art business, but really just fascinated by what they could do. Starting in 1984, he bought a CP/M system frmo Kaypro Computers of Solana Beach, CA, and eventually moved to Macs and PCs, with which he is highly proficient. This show is about painting "Dave's Way" -- he doesn't intend to teach, it just comes out that way. Really, Dave is just an answer man. People log in and chat, and inevitably questions are asked. The communication comes from all over the world, but he responds to the camera via video and microphone. The set-up works great.
There is a definite personality to the show. Dave is a gregarious fellow with a positive spin on life, a great sense of humor, quick, dry wit and a good memory for the names of his viewers and where they are watching from, making the whole show very personal, almost like being at his Richardson easel with him.
Darrow gladly shares tips and secrets, working methods, mixtures, glazes, oil painting mediums, photographic lighting, digital camera tricks and so much more in the couse of his broacasts which average about 3 per week.
with the help off his good friend and web designer Chris Vodnik of Colorado, who also acts as a show moderator, the site -- and the idea- are gathering speed and viewers.
